8th Grade News: May 6-10, 2019

Our 8th graders had a wonderful experience on their trip to Washington DC this week. A huge thank you to Mr. Blake for organizing the trip! (And to Mrs. Blake for helping chaperone!)

General News
7th/8th Grade Trip to National Center for Civil & Human Rights in Atlanta
We received funding for 200 seventh and eighth grade students to visit the National Center for Civil and Human Rights in Atlanta this Tuesday 5/7. Students will leave around 9:00am and be back around 3:00pm. There is no cost and students will bring a bag lunch from the school. Since there are more than 100 students in the eighth grade, we used a process to select the students who will attend. Every eighth grade student received a permission form on Thursday last week, and the eighth grade teachers will randomly draw 100 signed permission forms. We wish all students were able to attend, and since that is not the case, we felt that randomly choosing students was the fairest method to decide who will attend. At the time of this posting, we still have 50 spots open, so students can still bring back signed permission forms on Monday! (We realize this date also conflicts with the High School Science EOC - please know that if a student taking the EOC would like to and/or is selected to go on this trip, he or she will simply make up the EOC later this week!)

8th Grade Field Day
8th Grade Field Day will take place this Wednesday, May 8th. Students may dress down in field day attire (t-shirt, gym shorts, etc.), but the CCSD dress code policy will still be in effect. Field Day will last the entire day and students will be competing with their 5th period classes - each will class wear a different color t-shirt - in various team events. Snacks will be on sale throughout the day and sunscreen is highly recommended. We look forward to a day of fun and a chance to blow off some steam after all of this testing!

Binder Check Dress Down Day - Monday, May 6th
Students who earned at least 250 binder check points over the month of April will be permitted to dress out of uniform this Monday. As usual, students who are out of uniform must still adhere to CCSD/HMS guidelines. Parents, if you have any questions about binder checks, please email your child's teacher(s).
