8th Grade News: November 5-9, 2018

General News
Binder Check Dress Down Day
Students who have earned between 350-400 binder check points for the month of October will be permitted to be out of uniform Monday, November 5th. As usual, students who are out of uniform must still adhere to CCSD/HMS guidelines. The vast majority of our students are doing a wonderful job of staying organized - please continue to support your child by ensuring that they have the materials they need to be successful! If you are in need of supplies, please contact your child's homeroom teacher.

Shout Outs: 8th Grade Students of the Month
Each month, the 8th grade team selects two exemplary scholars to be the 8th grade students of the month. Congratulations to our 8th grade students of the month for October, Tre and Ella!

8th Grade Field Trip
The 8th grade is in the process of planning a field trip to go see the movie The Hate U Give. We have not yet confirmed a date, but we want to put it on your radar. We are also hoping to supplement the viewing of the film with guest speakers from around the community in an attempt to help students unpack their thoughts on some of the film's important themes. Stay tuned for more information and be on the lookout for a permission slip!

No School Tuesday
Just a reminder that schools are closed for students this Tuesday, November 6th (Election Day). Go vote if you haven't yet!

HMS Orchestra Fall Concert
Wednesday November 14th at 6:30pm
This year our concerts will be held in the Fine Arts Auditorium at Cedar Shoals High School. Students should report at 6:00pm to tune. Please contact Ms. Floyd (floydr@clarke.k12.ga.us) for more details.

High School Class Resources
We would like to offer some resources for students currently in high school classes (Spanish I, High School Physical Science, and Accelerated Math). Georgia Virtual Schools has a sister site that is free, and the modules teach the standards that are consistent with the classes offered. Click here for more information on the procedures for how to use the site. We definitely encourage these students to use this resource at home!
