8th Grade News: September 23-27, 2019

Congratulations to the boys cross country team and their amazing coach, Ms. Seymour, on winning first place in the JV race at their meet at Crow's Lake this past week! Go Panthers! 

General News
College & Career T-Shirt Day - Monday 9/23
Our monthly College/Career T-Shirt day will be this Monday, September 23rd. Students are encouraged to wear a t-shirt representing a college (or career) with uniform bottoms. Please make sure the college is visible on the shirt, as solid colors are not permitted. Students who do not wish to participate must wear regular uniforms. Our staff will be decked out with shirts from our colleges and we hope students will join us!

Washington DC Trip Parent Meeting - Thursday 9/26
There will be a parent meeting for students interested in going on the 8th Grade Field Trip to Washington DC on Thursday, September 26th at 6:00pm in the cafeteria. Families can sign up at worldstrides.com/signup using the Trip ID number 180791. This year's trip will be from 4/29/20-5/3/20. For more information, please email Mr. Blake (blakee@clarke.k12.ga.us).

Hilfest
The first Hilfest at our new building will be on Saturday, October 5th from 10:00am-1:00pm! More info is forthcoming, but mark your calendars and stay tuned!

Hilsman Healthcare Center
The doctor is in at Hilsman and Gaines! The Hilsman Healthcare Center, located behind the gym, will have its grand opening on October 8th. All students and staff at Gaines Elementary will soon have easy access to sick visits, well visits, immunizations, dental services, counseling services, and more. Fall Picture Day
Fall Picture Day at Hilsman will be October 11th. Flyers will be coming home soon with more information!

**Students took their Unit 1 Test last week. Grades are being entered into Infinite Campus this week as students finish their tests. This is a major grade and will have a very big impact on students' overall grades! Students may do Test Corrections to earn back credit.

Spanish (Mr. West):
Next week we will continue our work with Unit 1 B, discussing what we do and do not like to do, focusing on review of infinitives, vocabulary, negatives, and expressing agreement and disagreement. There will be a Unit 1 A Exam on Wednesday.

Art:
This week, 8th graders will finish their pop art drawings and start a unit on creating their own Ying and Yang symbols that represent the balances and conflicts of their lives.
