8th Grade News: March 18-20, 2020

General News
Hilsman Cyber Days
By now you know that our district offices and schools are closed effective Monday, March 16, 2020. While our school is closed for at least 1 week, school will continue from home. We are implementing distance learning across the district, where students will continue school virtually from home, as will our school staff. For full details on how these Cyber Days will work, please CLICK HERE and read all of the information carefully.

Device Check-Out
We understand that because Hilsman students do not take computers home with them that access to devices will be an issue. Students are encouraged to share a CCSD device with siblings or use a personal device at home (phones, tablets, and even gaming consoles like PS4 and Xbox One can work). Students can also sign-out a laptop from Hilsman at the following times:

  • Wednesday, March 18th from 8:30am-11:00am
  • Thursday, March 19th from 1:00pm-3:00pm

Meal Service for CCSD Students
Beginning Tuesday, March 17th, all CCSD students can receive daily free bagged meals for pickup at 2 school sites as well as neighborhood hubs. For more information on pickup and delivery locations, as well as service guidelines and community resources, please CLICK HERE.

Cyber Lesson Plans:
Please be aware of the following information regarding assignments:

  • Students, parents, and families should CLICK HERE to see what their assignments are each day.
  • Students should check their CCSD email daily for updated information.
  • Beginning Wednesday, March 18th, all assignments will be posted through Google Classroom and/or USATestPrep, both of which 8th graders are familiar with. (All assignments will be to review old material, not to learn new material!)
  • If students have questions about an assignment, they should contact their teacher first, either through Google Classroom or through email.
  • All teachers will be available to answer emails during the work day (8am-4pm). Please allow up top 24 hours during the business week for a response.
  • Most teachers will also be available to video chat on zoom.us for a period of time each morning. Links to these video chats will be posted on the Cyber Lesson Plans document, which is linked above.
  • If you need to contact a teacher or staff member, here are all of our staff's email addresses
  • If students have technology issues, they should contact Ms. Neace (neacec@clarke.k12.ga.us), Ms. Gonzalez (gonzalezl@clarke.k12.ga.us), or Mr. Hussain (hussainn@clarke.k12.ga.us).
