General News

Q1 Progress Reports
Teachers will be posting grades on Wednesday this week for Quarter 1 Progress Reports, which will be mailed home shortly after. These provide the 4.5 week notice of how your child is progressing in their classes for this quarter. If you have questions or concerns about your child's grades, please reach out to your child's teacher(s) - a full 8th grade faculty contact list is provided at the bottom of this blog. Please check Infinite Campus frequently so that we can address any academic concerns early!

Hilsman's Got Talent!
Start getting excited for Hilsman's first ever episode of Hilsman's Got Talent! Premiering on Friday, October 16th, tune in to see our HMS teachers show off some of their many hidden talents. We will also announce student winners for Students of the Month, Trail Blazer Awards, and more. Mark your calendars and stay tuned for more info!

How Can I Stay Updated?
  1. Check your email. Hilsman will use Campus Messenger to email parents/guardians all school-wide announcements. Follow these directions to sign up:

**Students will have a quiz on Thursday over translations, rotations, and reflections in the coordinate plane. Please help your child prepare by ensuring that they are reviewing their work each day!

**Students have a Unit 1 Pictionary Assignment that is due this Friday, October 9th. This will count as a major project grade. The assignment is posted in Google Classroom - students should be working on it outside of class, especially on Fridays when we're not meeting as a whole class!

**Beginning this week, students will make test corrections on FORMATIVE ASSESSMENTS to receive 1/2 credit and add to test grade to be counted as a RETEST grade, if formative assessment grade is below 70.

**We will continue to have students RETEST all SUMMATIVE ASSESSMENTS if the summative assessment grade is below 70.

**Students always have the RETEST options above if they believe they can improve their original grade. The better of the two would still apply.
