8th Grade News: January 22-25, 2019

Congratulations to our boys basketball team, who capped off an undefeated season with a city championship this Saturday! Another big shout out goes to our girls team, who made the city championship as well and finished as the runner-up!

General News
Saturday School
Saturday School will begin on February 2nd. This is an excellent opportunity for students to prepare for the Georgia Milestones by working with their teachers in a relaxed, small-group setting. Additionally, it is also ideal for students currently enrolled in high school classes (particularly HS Science and/or Accelerated Math) to review for their upcoming EOCTs. Saturday School will operate on a rotating schedule so that students get to see multiple teachers and review multiple subjects each time. Transportation is also provided. If you would like your child to attend or would like more information, please contact either the front office or Ms. Ward (wardt@clarke.k12.ga.us).

Upcoming Important 8th Grade Dates
Thank you to all of the families who were able to make it to our 8th Grade Parent Night this past week! Soccer Tryouts
The end of basketball season means the beginning of soccer season! Boys interested in playing soccer must turn in their permission form to the front office by Friday, January 25th. An email will be sent out by Coach Phillips on Saturday, January 26th with a link to a Google Form that must be completed by Sunday, January 27th. Tryouts will take place January 29th-30th at Cedar Shoals. Players will need to ride the activity bus after school. For more information, please contact Mr. Mosley (mosleyd@clarke.k12.ga.us).

Girls soccer tryouts will take place on January 28th-29th at Cedar Shoals. Girls interested in trying out must take the activity bus to Cedar after school. For more information, please contact Ms. Marty (maxeym@clarke.k12.ga.us).

Career Academy Showcase
The Career Academy Showcase and Community Dinner will take place on Thursday, January 31st. This event is great for those interested in learning about CTAE and other career pathways offered in CCSD and by the Career Academy.

Scoliosis Screening
Scoliosis screening letters went home last week and are due by February 8th with a parent and doctor signature. Nurse Chambers has received several letters that only have a parent signature and not a doctor's. Below is a video for families to view on how the process will go at school on February 26th and 27th.
